About this Blog and Rob
Welcome! My name is Rob Cosman and I started this blog to create a community for people who are thinking of starting a business or have just started one. There are many sites out there that are “get rich quick” gimmicks and simply run people around in circles. I wanted to start this blog to develop a real community of people to help others start their own business, and share my knowledge and experience along the way. Too many sites just give you various products to buy and don’t help you actually get an idea and get it operational. I hope to do both and share some tips along the way to help make it a little easier.
What This Blog Will Help You Do?
I want to help you, and I want you to help others start their own successful and profitable business. My goal in creating this blog is to help give people the advice and tools to start their own business. I’ve watched too many people start with what they think is a good idea. Then comes the worse part: they pour way too much money (mortgage the house, use their life savings) and quit their jobs on what ends up being a failing business. There are many ways it could have been avoided from better execution to more efficient follow-through to simply a more realistic product. I hate watching those business start up shows like Shark Tank and Dragons Den where people have bad ideas, have no idea what they are doing and have spent too much money. This really bothers me! And then come the people who want to rip you off.
This site is about helping you find the balance. Starting a business WHILE keeping your day job. I’m a fan of starting a business, but keeping a day job too. You need to keep your cashflow going, before giving it all up.
On this blog, I will recommend and suggest some resources and products. Yes, I do earn some funds from these, but my pledge will be to only recommend products and resources I truly believe in. I will provide valuable advice, but I wouldn’t be living my advice if I didn’t monetize this site.
About Me
Who am I? I’m a Chartered Accountant, living in Toronto, Canada. I have worked for audit firms, worked in the Cayman Islands, started a retail cell phone operation, and a few others adventures. Now I consult with a few start ups. I have started, sold, closed and consulted with a number of start up companies over my life. My goal is to help people start their own business, grow it, and live the life you dream of!
What Have I Done?
Starting in my first year of university, I was going to tutor accounting for $10 an hour. I thought this wasn’t enough and would take a long time to make good cash. So I decided instead to put on 3 hour seminars, charge $25 per person, per session. I ended up filling the sessions with more than 30 people a session. From that point on, I knew I would always want to have my own business. I’m not going to share all my stories just yet, like my first online store, pitching a retailer to pay me to open retail cell phone sales program, or consulting for an adult company.
By starting this blog, hopefully I can make some great contacts and opportunities while at the same time helping and inspiring some entrepreneurs to start their new start up!
